Eyelash transplantation is a technique to create longer, thicker and denser eyelashes. Eyelash transplant surgery can be considered by those who have lost eyelashes through trauma, injury or environmental reasons such as chemotherapy which has permanently damaged hair follicles. Some patients seek eyelash implants because they have damaged their own eyelashes through the use of artificial products and “follicle abuse” such as the use of harsh glues which pull eyelashes out upon removal. Other patients may seek eye lash implants because they have lost eyelashes due to natural processes of aging or even because they were born without a full lush eye lash set.
Eye lash transplants are similar to hair transplant surgery. It is performed in an outpatient setting and takes several hours to complete. Under comfortable local anesthesia, “donor” follicles are harvested from the back of the head and microscopically dissected into individual hair grafts. The grafts are then threaded one-by-one into the upper eyelid through a curved needle, and trimmed to its appropriate length. The amount of grafts required depends on donor hair characteristics, the extent of eyelash loss, and desired density. This procedure is extremely delicate, Dr. Nic takes great measures to ensure the new eyelashes are properly placed and angled correctly so that they grow naturally, creating beautifully shaped lashes that last a lifetime.
Though one may not notice when he/she has full and well-shaped eyebrows, it’s very easy to identify if your eyebrows have become too thin or are practically absent. When this occurs, the appearance of your face may affect your self-esteem and reduce your confidence. Due to developments in hair transplantation techniques over the past 10 years, eyebrow transplantation is possible and when performed properly, can provide beautiful results. Whether you’ve gone through permanent hair loss in the area or are starting to experience thinning due to over-plucking or genetic issues, an eyebrow transplant can restore your eyebrows.
Eyebrow transplantation is an advanced procedure, carried out in house under local anesthesia, that involves taking hair follicles from the back of the head or nape of the neck, then implanting these follicles in the region of the eyebrow to create permanent hair for eyebrow reshaping and enhancement.
The transplanted hairs will fall out at around two to three weeks, then these hairs should start to regrow at four months. During the second and third week, the eyebrows actually look quite nice, given that the hairs have not yet fallen out. Over the next six months, the eyebrows will typically get more and more dense. Because the donor hairs come from the scalp most commonly, they require trimming usually every 10 to 14 days, and sometimes a bit of grooming is required as well.
